Lewis, Jon
Jon Lewis first exhibited in 1974. He was a member of Sydney's Yellow House in the early 70's, went on to make experimental video with Bush Video, and started Greenpeace Australia, which led a successful campaign to end the slaughter of whales in that country. His interests are reflected in his photography, and when not on the hop, photographing or teaching, lives in the Southern Highlands of NSW, where he schemes for sponsorship,reads, writes and hunts wild pigs.

This is grounded in concentrated research as well as a lateral approach within the given subject matter. My main interests lie in documenting spatial and temporal states of the landscape and structure that take in places of meeting and change. Whether the urban decay associated with Detroit, or the mountains of the western United States, my focus has been and continues to be on the landscape. My landscapes, however, do not always reflect the idyllic scene most often portrayed by the traditional landscape photograph or painting, but ranges from serene Lake Superior sunsets to chaotic post-industrial landscapes of urban Detroit.
